Graduation Night
After 2 years of virtual graduation ceremonies, it felt like an added privilege to be able to attend Melbourne Polytechnic’s Graduation Night at the Melbourne Recital Centre. MC’d by Brian Nankervis, what may have been a rather dry event was lifted by his wit and general exuberance. Although it was a shame that not all of the Bachelor of Music cohort was invited or in attendance (a clerical error I assume, and nothing more malicious!), for those that were there, the celebration of our hard work and perseverance through both on campus and online learning felt well earned.
I was doubly honoured to receive not only the Outstanding Student of the Year for the Agritech, Health and Education Department, but also the award of Outstanding Higher Education Student of the Year. It was humbling, and a great encouragement to know that the way I approach study and music more broadly is recognised by those within and without the industry as valued work.
It is a night I will remember for the rest of my life, and I hope that the students who graduated in 2020 and 2021 know that they were in our thoughts during the night. I also hope they are issued with invites to next years graduation, as their achievements are no less worthy!
